There are a lot of misconceptions people have about organic waste converters (or OWCs). It’s common to assume that the large waste converters they use in apartments or commercial buildings are messy and smelly, and nobody would want to get within ten feet of them. But that’s the exact opposite of what they’re built to do. Your typical OWC is meant to convert organic and ‘wet’ wastes as hygienically and efficiently as possible. What comes out is a dry, sterilised compound that you can use as a completely organic fertiliser for growing crops or any other plants. To top it all off, they’re extremely eco-friendly, much more so than many other modern techniques of waste management.
Today, there are around 300 organic waste converters in Bangalore alone. 250 of these have been installed by Vennar. OWCs are fast becoming the most popular method of repurposing wet waste. Especially when used on an industrial scale, they have benefits that you just can’t match with regular composting. That’s largely because of the process OWCs use to convert waste. Rather than letting organic compounds decay naturally (but very slowly), waste converters do something different. They use a combination of pasteurisation and sterilisation to sanitise organic waste.
The process of creating useable and clean bio-manure using an OWC is extremely simple. Before it’s loaded into the machine, the organic waste is mixed with an absorbent which gets rid of excess moisture. It’s then loaded into what’s called a ‘hopper’, and depending on how coarse and dense the waste material is, the machine’s set to either 5 or 10 minutes. The organic material is systematically ground, mixed and fluidised.
During these processes, the waste is automatically dried and powdered. The end product is not only completely safe and free of harmful bacteria, but is very easy to use and sell. This compost can nourish plants, crops and can even be used for landscaping. It can even be dried further and compacted into convenient little fuel pellets.
As one of the leading organic waste converter suppliers in Bangalore, Vennar’s mission is one shared by the whole world: to protect the environment and preserve our delicate ecosystem. And with OWC technology, that’s just become a whole lot easier. Instead of throwing our waste out in landfills or dumpsters, all breeding grounds for dangerous pathogens and vermin, we’re recycling all our refuse to be used another time. To that end, waste converters are making it easier to achieve that goal everyday.
